How To Join

Joining the Credit Union, “is the best decision you could take for your money.”

To join you must complete an Membership Application form. You can join online or forms can be acquired in our Downloads Section.  Under law, the application form must be accompanied by proof of identity with photograph (such as driving license, ML10 or passport) together with proof of address (such as a utility bill or bank statement) and evidence of PPS number.

Note: A €1.27 membership fee applies to new accounts, and a minimum of €10 must be lodged to activate the account.

Photo ID ( one of the following required)

  • Current Valid Passport
  • Current Valid Drivers Licence

Verification  of  address (must be dated within last 6 months)

( one of the following required)

  • Original Utility Bill
  • Document from government department
  • Original Bank Or Building society statement

 

Verification of PPS Number ( one of the following required)

  • Government Letter
  • Payslip, P60 or P45
  • Social Welfare Receipt

If you are living outside Common Bond we require additional confirmation of eligibility for membership in Letterkenny. Proof of employment or education within Common Bond is required.

A Membership fee of €1.27 and a minimum opening balance of €10 are required to open an account. Member will also be asked to complete a Nomination Form once the account is opened.

Documentation must be reviewed an approved by the Membership Committee prior to account opening.

All members, over 16, are eligible to vote in respect of the affairs of Letterkenny Credit Union Ltd. at our Annual General Meeting which takes place in December.

Nomination

A nomination form is completed by member aged 16 yrs and over. This nominates a person to receive your savings and insurance benefits in the event of your death. It is one of the great attractions of credit union membership, that the sum of money you leave behind can be paid to your family quickly (to a maximum of €23,000) without waiting for probate and without inheritance tax. Any member of staff will be happy to complete a Nomination form with you and to advise you on the services available.

Junior Account

Please note for children’s accounts:

  • An account may be opened by the child or their parent/legal guardian only.
  • We require a birth certificate
  • We require verification of the parent/Guardian’s address and photographic ID.
  • We also ask for evidence of the child’s PPS number.
  • Under 16’s are not required to complete a Form of Nomination.

Note: Junior Accounts cannot be opened online, you must attend the office.
