Poster Competition

Each year, young local artists up to 18 years of age and over are invited to submit entries for the Credit Union National Poster Competition.

Now in its 28th year (2011), the competition attracts up to 50,000 entries through 300 Credit Unions Nationwide.

The Competition has two categories – General & Special with the following age groups in each category.

  • 7 years and under
  • 8 – 10 years inclusive
  • 11 – 13 years inclusive
  • 14 – 17 years inclusive
  • 18 years and over

Entry requirements for 2010 will be:

Ages as at 31st December 2010. Proof of DOB may be requested by the Credit Union. There is a separate section for group entries in the Special Category only.

Entries to the Special Category are invited from children and adults with special needs. Entrants must clearly tick on the entry form if they wish to be considered for this category. Entrants in this category are not required to use the theme.

All entries should bear the text and illustrate the theme ’My Credit Union, My Choice’. (except Special Category entrants) and the younger age groups (7 years and under, 8-10 years inclusive) in the general Category have to illustrate the theme but do not have to bear the text.

All group entries will be judged together – no age categories apply. One entry form suffices.

Name, address, age, date of birth and school/other details(where applicable) must be clearly printed on the entry form and then attached to the back of the poster. Any entries bearing incomplete entry forms will not be considered.

All entry forms and posters must be certified by teacher/facilitator/parent/guardian (under 18, General Category and Special Catgory), or by the entrant (over 18) as being an unaided and original work of the competitor.

All entries must be submitted on A3 (420mmx297mm) or A2 (594mmx420mm).Entries must be portrait, ie, upright shape in design and not landscape. (Landscaped entries will be disqualified from adjudication).

The poster can be drawn or painted in pencil, charcoal, pen or ink, felt-tip markers, crayon, pastel, water colours, gouache, acrylics, oils, poster colour or collage. Prints done from a lino block, wood block or any other method may also be submitted. No computer aided design (CAD) may be entered.

The competition is organised into three stages with the winner in each category being forwarded to the next stage, these being: Stage 1 ~ Credit Union Level, Stage 2 ~ Chapter Level, Stage 3 ~ National Level. Entries must be submitted to the local credit union only – no entries will be accepted directly at chapter or national level.

It should be noted that once the posters are received by a credit union or at the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU), they become the property of the credit union or ILCU and may be reproduced at the ILCU’s discretion and may only be returned at the discretion of the credit union or ILCU. All entries are accepted as original works and the credit union or ILCU is not responsible for any breach or copyright.

Entrants may enter the competition only once.

The ILCU reserves the right not to award prizes in any category. The decision of the adjudicators is final and no correspondance will be entered into.

Entries must be submitted to Letterkenny Credit Union, High Road, Letterkenny on or before the publicised closing date (23rd October 2009).
