Letterkenny Credit Union Ltd. lets people in the local community come together to save and borrow money at low rates, and is operated on a not-for-profit basis, with surpluses being returned to members.
Joining the Credit Union is easy!
You are eligible to become a member if you live or work in the Common Bond. Our Common Bond centers on Letterkenny but extends to Ramelton, Churchill, and Manorcunningham (Corkey).
Membership
To join you must complete an Membership Application form. Under law, the application form must be accompanied by proof of identity with photograph (such as driving license, ML10 or passport) together with proof of address (such as a utility bill or bank statement) and evidence of PPS number. These forms can be obtained in the office or you can download and print them from the links below. A Membership fee of €1.27 and a minimum opening balance of €10 are required to open an account. Member will also be asked to complete a Nomination Form once the account is opened.
Documentation must be reviewed an approved by the Membership Committee prior to account opening. Please submit the documentation to our office and we will contact you once your membership is approved.
All members, over 16, are eligible to vote in respect of the affairs of Letterkenny Credit Union Ltd. at our Annual General Meeting which takes place in December.
Nomination
A nomination form is completed by member aged 16 yrs and over. This nominates a person to receive your savings and insurance benefits in the event of your death. It is one of the great attractions of credit union membership that the sum of money you leave behind can be paid to your family quickly (to a maximum of €23,000) without waiting for probate and without inheritance tax. Any member of staff will be happy to complete an Nomination form with you and to advise you on the services available.
Minor Account
Please note for children’s accounts:
- An account may be opened by the child or their parent/legal guardian only.
- We require a birth certificate or passport and verification of the parent/Guardian’s address.
- We also ask for evidence of the child’s PPS number.
- Under 16’s are not required to complete a Form of Nomination.

Arrange a Direct Debit payment from your bank and be sure of regular payments to your Credit Union account. We will send you a statement showing all transactions on an annual basis.
